Bedford Summer iPad Distribution and Orientation

The start of the 2018-2019 school year is drawing near and the Bedford Area School District is excited about the new initiatives that will enhance student learning and provide more efficient communication for families. After two years of research and discussion, we are ready to implement three major technology advancements in the district. First is the One-to-One (1:1) initiative, which will provide iPads for all students and teachers. Research shows strategic use of personal technology can greatly enhance learning experiences for students when used in conjunction with an effective learning management system. Therefore, our second initiative will be the introduction of a new learning management system called Schoology. This online system is a convenient and thorough tool that will provide detailed day-to-day information for students and families. In addition to lesson plans and assignments, Schoology will be used to communicate important dates for tests, field trips, and more. Schoology will partner with our third initiative called Skyward, which will update and track data records for students and parents. This additional web-based tool will warehouse data such as biographical information, schedules, grades, and more. It will replace our MMS Parent/Student Portal.  We are confident the implementation of these initiatives will meet the school district’s goal of ensuring students are provided with learning opportunities keeping with current best practices in education. We feel students and parents will benefit from all three initiatives, but realize there will be many questions as we begin the process of change.
