Dr. Ruhlman

SUPERINTENDENT

Dr. Ruhlman was appointed Superintendent at the April 2023 Board meeting and began serving as Superintendent on July 1, 2023.  Prior to serving as Superintendent, Dr. Ruhlman was appointed to the position of Assistant Superintendent at the May 2014 Board meeting. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education in Spanish from Mansfield University, Master Degree in Education and Principal Certificate from Westminster College, Pennsylvania, and a Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Gannon University. Additionally, Paul completed his Doctorate in Education at the College of William and Mary. Dr. Ruhlman served as a teacher, an assistant high school principal, a K-12 campus principal, director of special education, director of student services and assistant superintendent. Paul looks forward to continuing to serve the students, parents, and community members of the Bedford Area School District.

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

Mr. Brian Thompson began his tenure as Assistant Superintendent in the Bedford Area School District on July 1, 2023. Mr. Thompson is a graduate of Bedford High School and is excited to serve the district, students, and community that laid the foundation for his career. Mr. Thompson received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He received both his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to returning to the Bedford Area School District, Mr. Thompson was the High School Principal at Berlin Brothersvalley High School from 2014-2023. Prior to serving as principal, Mr. Thompson was a business and computer teacher from 2006-2014 while also coaching in the football, wrestling, and softball programs at Berlin. Prior to Berlin, Brian was employed as a business teacher at South Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, MD. 

Mr. Thompson firmly believes that all students should be provided with a safe and caring learning environment that fosters a culture of pride, success, and community. Brian looks forward to engaging with the students, staff, parents, and community members of the Bedford Area School District to promote Bison Pride and continue the many successes of the District.
