NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

NHS

The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization dedicated to recognizing and encouraging outstanding high school students in grades 10-12. Founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, it was the first nationwide honor society and now has chapters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and many other US territories. The National Honor Society estimates that today, more than one million students participate in their activities. The Bedford High School Chapter of National Honor Society supports the school district and community through everyday scholarship, service, leadership, and character, as well as a commitment to these shared values. Throughout the school year, NHS encourages the development of leadership, cultivates a joy of giving back, and prepares students for the next phase in their academic journey and beyond. To apply for membership, students must have a 3.8 (Freshman)/3.5 (Sophomore, Junior) cumulative GPA, be in good standing regarding character, and complete an application outlining the aforementioned pillars of service and leadership.
