The Bedford Area School District values the trust of its school community. We always endeavor to be as transparent as possible when we receive information that could impact our students and community. The District would like to provide you with information about a hoax Snapchat message alleging an act of violence against unspecified schools.
The local Pennsylvania State Police contacted us about a hoax Snapchat message threatening violence to unspecified schools. They requested that we send information to parents to calm any concerns regarding school safety and security. The Pennsylvania State Police investigated and determined these messages were part of a larger Snapchat hoax and there is no credible threat to any schools. Moreover, they report the message can be traced to Frederick County, Virginia.
Please know that the District will communicate any credible threats immediately, and will activate our security plans instantly to protect our students and staff. Once again, this was not a credible threat, and we are sending this message to assist the local Pennsylvania State Police.
In closing, the safety of our students and staff is a fundamental duty of the school district. We appreciate the diligence of our students, parents, and community in reporting issues of concern to District officials. Your trust is incredibly valuable to us, and we recognize our important role in creating a safe environment for your children and our staff. If you have any questions, please contact your building administration.
