The Bedford Area School District often states it values the trust of the community, and therefore, works diligently to provide timely information to students, parents, and the community as valuable partners. Unfortunately, I am writing to you about a hoax social media post threatening schools and attempting to create disruption and fear.
The State Police notified us around 1:00 A.M. Friday morning that they received a call about a social media threat similar to the others about numerous schools across the Commonwealth and other states. The post is not credible but may alarm parents and students. Given the potential for the post to create concern, I want the community to know that we are aware of the post, it is not credible, and to create a sense of security for students, staff, and parents there will be a larger than normal police presence around our schools today.
We appreciate your support and information. We will continue our mission to balance education, safety, and security. I want to personally let you know I take the safety and security of students and staff very seriously and would instantly initiate our security protocols if we receive a credible threat.
In closing, we value your trust and will continue to communicate relevant information. Thank you for collaborating closely with us as we react to these unfounded posts. If you have any questions, please contact me and/or any building administrators.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Ruhlman
