The Bison Buddies visited Bedford Elementary on Wednesday, February 11th for a special Social-Emotional Learning lesson focused on Bison Grit. The lesson centered around the book
The Day the Crayons Quit, which explores the unique challenges and feelings of each colored crayon in a creative and relatable way. Students imagined how they would feel if they were each crayon and discussed positive ways to work through frustration, perceived unfairness, and setbacks.
Students then completed a creative writing and illustrating activity where they wrote a letter to their favorite color. They expressed appreciation, encouragement, and understanding—demonstrating both literacy growth and emotional awareness.
The visit concluded with a hands-on craft: a confetti stained-glass Valentine heart. The colorful creation symbolized individuality, resilience, and the importance of working together—just like the crayons in the story.
