Dear Bison Community,
Today, the Bedford Area School District lost an outstanding member of our education community. Susan Prescott was the best of the best. She was a loving mother, great friend, and a committed educator. In her role within the high school counseling department, she was often the first point of contact for students seeking help, and she met every individual with kindness and compassion. Her dedication to our students and her colleagues exemplified the spirit of Bison pride, and her absence will be felt deeply across the District.
Additionally, Susan was an integral part of the community. She was very involved in the Boy Scouts. Her former scouts remember the way she treated them and her commitment to helping them achieve their goals. In every aspect of her life, Susan was an example to all of us, and we will all remember her smile and willingness to help students. We all will miss her presence!
Everyone reacts differently to this type of event. Factors such as levels of development, our relationships with the people impacted, our previous experiences of loss, and our personal perceptions of death impact how we deal with this event. We understand that grief can cause a variety of emotions and behaviors. The District is here for anyone needing support. School counselors will be available in the days and weeks ahead. Please contact your child’s building principal if you have any questions or concerns.
In closing, our hearts are heavy with the shock of her passing. We will also remember her incredible love for her boys, our students, and her Bison pride!
Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
With Sympathy,
The Bedford Area School District
