Bedford Area School District

Celebrating a legacy of leadership, service, and achievement, the Bedford Area School District officially inducted six new members into the Hall of Excellence during a ceremony held last night. Presented by the Bedford Education Foundation Community School Excellence Council, the Hall of Excellence honors individuals who have made significant lifelong contributions as graduates of the district, distinguished former educators, or dedicated community supporters. The 2026 induction class features a diverse group of honorees whose impact spans the halls of Bedford schools to the highest levels of law, business, and academia:

Mr. Bill Duncan

A beloved figure in the district community, honored for his decades of dedicated service and pride in the Bedford Area schools.

President Judge Honorable Travis Livengood

Recognized for his distinguished legal career and his steadfast commitment to justice and leadership within Bedford County.

Mr. Craig Timoney

A prominent local business leader and philanthropist, noted for his long-standing support of regional charities and youth employment.

Mr. John Waltman

A veteran and legendary former English teacher at Bedford High School, remembered for his 33 years of inspiring students and his passion for the community.

Austin Wright, Ph.D.

An accomplished scholar honored for his significant contributions to his field and his embodiment of the district’s academic excellence.

William Murrie

A historic figure in Pennsylvania business and industry, whose legacy of innovation and success continues to serve as an inspiration. For 39 years, Mr. Murrie served as President of Hershey Chocolate Company.

These six individuals represent the very best of what it means to be a part of the Bedford community. The inductees will be permanently recognized within the halls of the district, serving as a reminder to current students of the extraordinary paths that begin in Bedford.
