'Adopt A Cow' Day at BE

Mrs. Leibfreid's third grade students are participating in the 'Adopt A Cow' through the American Dairy Association. The students attended a zoom called 'Virtual Dairy Farm Tour: All About Calf Care'.  They learned about caring for newborn calves and the different pens they are moved into to maximize their care.  The farm visited was located in Ohio and they have over 1,600 dairy cows they milk 3 times a day. The farm has approximately 100 heifers on the farm at this time.  A heifer is the name of a diary cow before it has its first calf and starts producing milk. The students even got to see a calf right after it was born.  The calf was born a few minutes before the zoom occurred. The student's adopted calf is named Paisley. They will participate in many activities throughout the school year to learn about calves, dairy farming and milk production.
