Over this summer the Bedford Area School District is upgrading their wifi infrastructure to wifi 6E using Extreme Networks. Wifi 6E is an EXTREME improvement over our current system running wifi 5. The biggest advancement is the addition of a new 6 gigahertz band that supports more channels. This means that users can send and receive at higher speeds than were previously possible. Wifi 6E also does not share spectrum with wifi 5 and wifi 4 devices thereby reducing interference. As we move into that age of Internet of Things, wifi 6E will ensure no degradation in performance.

The Bedford Area School District is scheduled to perform this upgrade mid June of this summer 2023. We are very excited to see the improvements that this new wifi system will afford to all students, staff, and faculty. As the Bedford Area School District IT Department strives to stay on the cutting edge of technology it is our goal to always prioritize the student experience and we believe wifi 6E will do just that.
