Dear Parents and Caregivers:

The Bedford Area School District is deeply saddened to share the news that our High School Counselor’s Office Administrative Assistant, Sue Prescott, passed away. Sue was an integral part of our school and the Bedford community for many years. In her role within the guidance department, she was often the first point of contact for students seeking help, and she met every individual with kindness and compassion. Her dedication to our students and her colleagues exemplified the spirit of Bison Pride, and her absence will be felt deeply across the district. We recognize a loss like this affects our entire community. To support our students and staff during this difficult time, school counselors and support teams will be available at the High School counselor’s office and library to provide assistance to anyone in need over the next few days.  We encourage you as parents and caregivers to read over the following list of ways you can help your student deal with these events and to use them as you feel appropriate.

What Can You Do as a Parent?

  • Be available and willing to discuss the events and honestly share your feelings about them.

  • Allow your student to express fears and feelings. Let him/her question things without being judgmental.

  • Maintain your daily routines as it offers students a sense of security.

  • Be present and watchful of your student in the days and weeks ahead. Watch for any changes in behavior. If you do notice changes, talk them over with a school counselor.

  • Give assurance of love, support, and safety.

  • Be patient. Students may express a variety of emotions within a short period of time.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Sue’s family, friends, and the many lives she touched. Please keep her loved ones and our entire school community in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this loss together.  The school counselors will be available in the days and weeks ahead.  We are always here for students.  If you feel your child is struggling to process this, please reach out for assistance and support by calling the high school office at 814-623-4250.

Sincerely,

Kevin Steele
